SI Ltd. Update – SHIELD Initiative Grant Award: FEMA Higher Education Program – Emergency Management Workforce & Undergraduate Degree Program Analysis

I’m excited to announce that the Simental Industries Ltd. – SHIELD Initiative Research team was awarded grant funding from FEMA’s Higher Education Program for our study: An Examination of Emergency Management Workforce Job Postings & Undergraduate Degree Program Alignment Analysis.

Special thanks to Co-Principal Investigators: Dr. Tina (Markowski) Bynum, Sinan Khan, Erin E. Zaideman, and our student research fellows for their amazing work on this!

Project Description
This study will focus on analyzing the emergency management workforce market with the alignment of competencies of an emergency management bachelor’s degree. Focusing on entry level positions in Government, Private and Non-profit sectors and finding communities’ use of future conditions data and/or measuring loss avoidance and the efficacy of risk reductions. The expansion of differences between entry level positions and how it relates to the core competencies of the strategic plan.

Additionally, this study seeks to understand the links, if any, between emergency management degree programs and the emerging higher education standards and goals outlined by FEMA, the Council for the Accreditation of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Education (CAEMHSE), and the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP). The study will focus solely on bachelor’s degree programs as they are indicative of the well-rounded, educated, and knowledgeable graduate.
